Minor Injury Unit


Admission to Hospital


Please present for admission at the time indicated on your appointment letter. Please bring your appointment letter with you on the day of your surgery. On arrival at the hospital, please go directly to the Reception desk located on the Ground Floor of the hospital, inside the main entrance.

If you are delayed on the day, please contact the Admissions Department on (044) 93 85320 to let us know that you are on your way and what time you expect to arrive.

All patients admitted for morning surgery, undergoing general anaesthetic are requested to FAST from midnight .i.e. nothing to eat or drink, including water.


Minor Injury Unit

The Regional Hospital Mullingar Minor Injury Unit located in the Charter Medical Private Hospital, Ballinderry, Mullingar.

  1. Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 8:00pm
  2. Saturday and Sunday 10:00am to 6:00pm.
  3. Bank Holidays 10:00am to 6:00pm

Patients who attend this public service will be charged a fee of €75, which is less than the €100.00 fee charged if they were to attend an Emergency Department. There is no charge for patients who have Medical Card or who have a referral letter from either their General Practice or from the ED. Additionally, waiting times for patients who attend Minor Injury Units are significantly less than those who may have to wait in busy Emergency Departments while more acutely ill patients are triaged as a priority.  The average time to be seen and discharged in an Injury Unit is routinely less than 90 minutes.

Medicine for the Elderly - Rapid Access Clinic



Rapid Access, Medicine for the Elderly Clinic (RAC) is a HSE funded initiative run by Charter Medical Private Hospital for patients aged 60 and over require an urgent but non-critical review by a geriatrician. 

This service is located on site in Charter Medical Private Hospital. Free at the point of care for patients, the service is staffed by specially trained medical and nursing teams under the supervision of Professor Dermot Power, Consultant Geriatrician, Medicine for the Elderly.



HSE Guidelines


Charter Medical Private Hospital is following the HSE national guidance on visiting to hospitals.

Visiting is subject to the hospital’s ability to facilitate safe visiting, and arrangements are made on a case-by-case basis following a risk assessment and Covid-19 screening. The visiting in Charter Medical Private Hospital is in line with National Guidelines and are constantly under review by hospital management. In line with public health advice, please wear a face covering on arrival to Charter Medical Private Hospital.

COVID-19 Note


COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.If you have any one of the following symptoms, please contact your GP for further advice. Please do not visit Charter Medical Private Hospital as this could expose others to the virus.

Most common symptoms:
Fever, dry cough, tiredness

Less common symptoms:
Aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhoea, headache, loss of taste or smell

Serious symptoms:
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, loss of speech or movement

Note that anyone entering Charter Medical Private Hospital can have their temperature taken with a non-contact thermometer by a clinical member of staff as a screening measure. Anyone displaying a temperature on or above 38 degrees will not be permitted to enter the hospital. Our staff are working extremely hard to deal with the COVID-19 virus and to care for all our patients currently in the hospital.

We are employing all infection control measures and every effort is being made to manage and control the spread of the virus. Help to stop the spread of Covid-19 (coronavirus) and other viruses and bacteria by cleaning your hands properly.

  • Dressing gown
  • Any mobilizing aids you may need such as a walking stick, crutches, walking frame or wheelchair

Note: Hand and bath towels will be provided.

Please do not bring large amounts of cash or valuables, as the hospital cannot accept responsibility for lost or damaged property.
 

Our Facilities

There is ample free parking available on the hospital grounds.

As part of our commitment to provide a patient friendly accessible service, there is no fee for parking for our patients, their carers or their visitors. There are dedicated disabled car parking and partent and child spaces available.

A vending machine is also located in the main reception area. All food and beverages served on the ward are provided for patients only.

Any parents staying overnight with a child, will be provided with a light breakfast. We provide healthy and child friendly options for all our patients.
 

Children as Patients

Charter Medical Private Hospital is committed to providing a service which meets the needs of the children we care for while staying with us.

We have a well trained staff with the required paediatric expertise, both in theatre and the wards. We have a robust Child Protection Policy to ensure our adherence to safeguarding children, with the welfare of the child being paramount.
 

Insurance & Payments


Please check with your insurance company prior to admission that your policy covers you for surgery and treatments which you require in Charter Medical Private Hospital.

Patients are liable for any charges not covered by their insurance company, this includes shortfalls, excesses and co-payments which must be paid on the day of admission and it is essential to check terms and conditions of your plan with your insurer prior to admission.

Charter Medical private Hospital is not responsible if all or part of your claim is rejected by your insurance company. In such cases these amounts will be liable by the patient.
 

Complaint Process

A complaint is an expression of dissatisfaction that requires a response.

Charter Medical Private Hospital is committed to resolving complaints with dignity and consideration, to get the best outcome for all parties.

In line with our Complaints Management Policy, we will respond within 5 working days. In the event you are not satisfied with the complaint investigation outcome, you may ask for a separate review by the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital.

All patients retain the option to contact the National Consumer Agency for Financial / Customer Service complaints and the Irish Medical Council for Clinical complaints or similar agencies for advice.

We guarantee that any complaint will be treated confidentially, and will be processed in a timely and efficient manner, in accordance with our Complaints Management Policy P-CO-006.

Please be assured that making a complaint will not adversely affect your current or future treatment.
